"Allegory of time and Truth" Cameo
Pegasus is the most famous of the winged horses.
According to the myth, it was born from the soil bathed in spilled blood when
Perseus cut Medusa's neck. A wild and free animal, Pegasus is initially used by Zeus
to transport lightning bolts to Olympus. Thanks to the bridles received as a gift from Athena,
it was subsequently domesticated by Bellerophon, who used it as a mount to kill the Chimera.
After the death of the hero, which happened to have fallen from Pegasus, the winged horse
returns among the gods.
